The Wishing Spell

Author: Chris Colfer

Age recommendation: 8+

My rating: 4/5

Other books in the series: The Land of stories: The Enchantress returns, etc.

Favourite character: Froggy

Comments: Twins, Alex and Conner, accidentally fall into a magical land where fairy-tales are real, the Land of Stories. As they venture across kingdoms, danger lurks and an increasing number of narrow escapes occur. But a fairy tale always comes with evil...

Main characters: Alex, Conner.

Synopsis: The twins receive a treasured fairy-tale book for their birthday, little do they know that the book is a portal to the wonderful 'Land of Stories'. Suddenly they are trapped in a magical world, unable  to get out. There's no time for tourism, they must collect the items and assemble the Wishing Spell before other mysterious forces beat them to it. Creeping evil is never far behind them.

Review: This book is the definition of the word fairy-tale. A well-written adventure, where our world mixes with a brilliant imaginary one, its just - magical. Alex and Conner discover amazing places and characters, and who they really are. That is one of the best lessons about this book, along with showing the good inside people beneath the mask of evil. It is a life-changing way of expressing things in real-life.
